Rome’s climate action is already underway with projects spread across the city that will upgrade buildings and public spaces by adapting them to climate impacts, install photovoltaic systems, and create energy communities, to build new streetcar and subway lines, to renew the circulating bus fleet with electric and low-emission vehicles, to plant more than 600 thousand trees, and to produce biogas from organic waste.
Implemented and ongoing interventions made possible by resources from the PNRR, the Catholic Church Jubilee 2025, European, national, and regional funding, and the administration’s budget have been directed toward climate change mitigation and adaptation projects.
Roma Capitale has been selected by the European Commission in the Mission “100 climate-neutral and smart cities by 2030” and is involved in several European climate change mitigation and adaptation projects.
