The solar plant inaugurated on the roof of the Leonarda Vaccari Institute on November 20, 2023 is Rome’s first renewable and supportive energy community.
The photovoltaic solar panels have a capacity of more than 82 kWp and were installed on the roof of the building owned by Roma Capitale and managed by the Vaccari Institute, thanks to a donation from the Energy Bank through Edison.
There are several benefits of this intervention. The clean energy fed into the grid, about 120 thousand kWh per year, results in a reduction of about 43 tons of CO2 per year, which is equivalent to more than 1400 trees planted.
The energy produced by the plant and directly consumed by the facility allows a reduction in the electricity bill of more than 30 thousand euros for an Institute engaged in psychophysical rehabilitation of people with disabilities and educational and social integration. In addition, on the energy fed into the grid, the energy community “Le Vele” was established, which includes Institutes and Associations in the neighborhood, within the same primary cabin, and with the incentives generated by the energy consumed by the members will allow them to support social projects in the neighborhood, in agreement with the City Hall, and help families in energy poverty.
The project is also interesting because of the seamless integration on the roof of the building that makes it not visible from all the public spaces around it.
